Are you an expert in electronics and in electronics design outsourcing for industrial devices? We are looking for a Chief Hardware Architect to strengthen our global hardware team and facilitate the introduction of global best practices leading to reduced product cost, increased product quality, development cost, and reduced development time. In this high-impact role, you will be in charge of Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) management and strategy for the hardware portfolio of our BU Grid Automation, a leading provider of network management and utility communication technologies, smart grid technologies, and related protection and control technologies. Location will be Västerås, Sweden.
You will define an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) strategy for our boards and devices (protection relays, microgrid controllers, communication devices, etc.) and build/develop an ODM network together with Supply Chain Management. You will also review internal and external designs of electronic boards for functional correctness, component choices and design margins, design for cost, and design for manufacturing.
Other important parts will be to advise management and technical specialists on strategies for the optimization of hardware (HW) development including industry best practices and latest trends in components, processes, tools, and organization. You will partner in an effective way with Product Managers and advise them on feasibility and cost/quality consequences of requirements.
A mission will be to drive a HW variant reduction and HW harmonization and reuse strategy across our Grid Automation product portfolio. You will also be active in creating architectures for embedded devices and designs for individual boards or subsystems. And you will be responsible for making HW architectural decisions with high impact on cost and quality, conduct root-cause analysis of HW related problems, and lead task forces or project teams, as required.
You have a Master’s degree or higher in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience. We also see that you have 10+ years’ experience in the industrial electronics industry, including embedded board and device design experience. To be able to succeed we also want you to have a strong familiarity with digital and analogue electronics design, including related EMC and thermal considerations as well as DfX, and with embedded SW development, in order to make well-reasoned HW/FPGA/SW trade-off decisions. You also have experience with HW architecture/design in specifying an embedded product alongside SW design teams. You have experience with EMS and ODM companies in different parts of the world and have successfully introduced a product with an ODM from initial specification to volume manufacturing (10’000+ devices/y). Your knowledge includes know-how in state-of-the art HW design, simulation, and verification tools and have experience with using agile practices in HW development is beneficial.
You have excellent communication and presentation skills. You see the “Big picture”, system-level approach, paired with strong analytical and problem solving skills. You show strong leadership, influencing, and networking skills. You are fluent in English, both written and spoken and you are available to travel internationally as required (approximately 20%).
